We list the important steps from such a preparatory ISO 9001 requirements checklist for you (read more here at NEN on the ISO9001 standard):

  • Chapter 4: context
The ISO 9001 requirements in this chapter deal with the context in which the organisation operates. It is a strategic chapter, covering topics such as stakeholder management and current issues. For example, it is important to identify current opportunities and threats so that you can respond to appropriate risks.

  • Chapter 5: leadership and engagement
This chapter focuses on leadership and management commitment. Management must take responsibility for the effectiveness of the quality system. Moreover, the management must establish, implement, maintain and, for example, communicate the quality policy.

  • Chapter 6: planning
The requirements in this section of ISO 9001 are about planning. The organisation must identify actions to address risks and opportunities. This involves, for example, setting quality objectives and drawing up plans to achieve them.

  • Chapter 7: resources
This chapter deals with establishing and making available resources for the quality management system. For example, it is about designating and making people available for implementation. It is also about knowledge and competence management, to determine what knowledge is needed to deliver a product or service.

  • Chapter 8: core activities
The ISO 9001 requirements in this chapter deal with core operations. A comprehensive topic, covering, for example, operational planning, communication with customers and design and development. It is also about controlling externally delivered processes, products and services. But also about the risks within these processes and how you controlled them.
