The healthcare sector regularly experiences data breaches. These data breaches mainly come from malware infections, human error, phishing, or web application vulnerabilities.
According to figures from the Personal Data Authority (AP), 30% of all reported data breaches in 2020 came from the healthcare sector. While that is 4% less than in 2019, it is still 8 % per cent more than Financial Services (22%) and Public Administration 22%.
The bulk of data breaches involve sending personal data to the wrong recipient. In some cases, patient data is leaked through a successful phishing attack that allowed criminals to access personal data.
EHBD-KIT
A data breach can happen to any organisation. How do you deal with it in the best possible way and what steps should you actually go through? Based on the AP roadmap, Z-CERT has created an EHBD kit (First Aid for Data Breaches) for the healthcare sector.
